The “Reverse” Trade Blanket

As a Cherokee-owned company, our blankets are the first modern “trade” blankets to be made by native people. That means brought to the customer at scale, made on native land, and woven just like we’ve done for thousands of years. The beautiful and durable textile that immediately became everything from bedding to coats, first imported from England and eventually produced here on Turtle Island.

AniGiduwagi Textiles, named for the Cherokee name for ourselves, strives to be a part of the community of Tahlequah in our commitment to training the next generations of commercial weavers. We believe that traditional crafts are traditional industry, and native people are the best stewards of our own art.

That’s why Sequoyah blankets aren’t limited to designs of the past, any more than we’re limited to hand weaving, and you’ll see designs and patterns from time immemorial, from history, and from talented native futurists. And what makes it a true “Reverse” Trade Blanket. For the first time, these are native designs produced by Cherokee people and shared in this classic medium on a world stage. We’re proud to bring them into your home, and share a small piece of our culture with the world on our own terms.

“Four hundred years ago, it was fur trading,
Fifty years ago it was manufacturing,
and long after I'm dead,
there will be Minishonka
figuring out how to master
the next endeavor.
Because that's what we do.”
